The Art of Fight (or Flight)

Does getting rejected many times in one day accelerate a person’s progress in Rejection Therapy?

This is a question I was asked recently. The answer contains a sneaky fear hack.

As many of you already know, Rejection Therapy recommends one rejection every day for 30 consecutive days for overcoming the fear of rejection.

From experience, I can say that it’s better to spread out each rejection instead of trying to get many rejections in a single afternoon.

Why? Because after several rejection attempts in a short time period, a person will have completely spent their ‘fight or flight’ stress hormones (adrenaline, cortisol and norepinephrine). Without a biochemical response to provide physical ‘symptoms’ of fear, it’s just too easy.

It’s probably why pick up artists have the saying: the first three [pick up attempts] don’t count.

A major feature of Rejection Therapy is that you find ways to manage your fear in natural, real-world situations that you initiate on your own terms.

When you are out of your comfort zone, day after day (for short but intense periods of time), you find ways to manage, then master your fear so you can meet the objective of the game.

However, if you aren’t out of your comfort zone and feeling jacked-up on fight or flight hormones, then you shouldn’t be doing that particular rejection challenge. It’s too easy. Pick a tougher one.

That’s why doing it all in one day just doesn’t work. By getting many rejections all at once, you avoid the opportunity to learn about your fear and how to master the natural fight or flight response.

Please email me if anyone is unclear on my answer. I probably didn’t explain it well enough.
